There are a multitude of loan products and rebates available in Maine to finance the cost of energy efficiency work in multifamily, hospitality and other properties. Below is a list of these programs with a link to a dedicated page for each. While we believe the information presented here to be current, the programs are constantly changing. Just released! This program will offer substantial rebates for energy conservation work in multifamily housing. There is a preference for affordable apartment buildings. Insulation, air sealing, mechanical systems upgrades and commissioning work are all anticipated to be eligible measures.
MaineHousing’s Multifamily Home Energy Loan Program (Multifamily HELP) offers 4.75% fixed rate financing to improve the energy efficiency of eligible affordable housing developments and reduce project operating costs. MaineHousing must be the first mortgage holder on the property in order to be eligible.
The property must:
- Be in good standing on compliance issues.
- Be eligible for the MaineHousing Subsequent Loan Program.
- Have an existing loan to value of 85% or less (including all loans to the property)
- Have the capacity to meet the repayment terms of the new loan
This is a weatherization program, funded by Efficiency Maine. To be eligible, 66% of the tenant population must be LIHEAP eligible. 100% of project costs are reimbursed by Efficiency Maine upon successful completion of the renovation. Switching to natural gas or other fuels is NOT an eligible measure.
